This month I'm working on another painting of the Angel of Song.

Musicians have repeatedly sought out my last painting of Israfel but I've always wished I could have a version of it that was more close to the experience of performing music. When the opportunity came around to make a new painting of the Angel of Song, I decided to make a piece for them that they could be proud of. So far, I'm proud of it too.

This month I'm working on another painting of the Angel of Rain.

This is a painting I've been thinking about on and off for years now. Matariel, Angel of Rain is one of my favorite designs from the series, so I've been looking for a good opportunity to paint it again. The end of the Watchers series has given me the perfect opportunity to take a swing at it.

This month I'm working on the Angel of the Waning Moon. I think of Sariel as being someone who is constantly looking to the sky. I wanted to parallel that to my own fascination with the planets and stars.

This month I'm working on the Angel of Pride. The power to command is something we all recognize in the world. A force so natural, it’s almost invisible. Personally, I’ve always resisted observing authority. It’s lead to a life where I’ve easily slid into the role myself. In most situations, people are so unwilling to assign themselves authority, that anyone who does, gets the job.

This month I'm working on the Angel of the Stars. Circling back on these familiar figures has been a joy. With much of the design work already established by his first portrait, I'm able to build on the themes behind Kokabiel's character. To me, Kokabiel represents a sort of escapism. In the first piece, he's looking to the heavens while water rises around him. This time around I wanted to pull the camera in closer and show a private moment as he loses himself in a beautiful moment.

This month's upcoming piece is of the Angel of the Deep. He's an interesting figure, but I've never really gotten a chance to dive into his existing lore very much. Even though he's been punished to live at the bottom of the ocean, he remains faithful and humble. When he's commanded to retrieve the Book of Raziel, he does it despite knowing that it won't save him. This book is a recurring character, so I'm keeping it the same as it appears in the most recent Raziel painting.
