The 10th in the Watchers series has arrived and he's one of my favorites. There was a profound sense of flow working on this one. No anxiety, no blocks. Without the time restrictions imposed by a travel schedule, I was able to comfortably spend time focusing on what I wanted to accomplish with this painting. Many of my favorite icons ended up slipping into the piece as a result.
Samshiel represents power that has been snuffed out. While he typically represents the sun, I wanted to create a figure that was formerly associate with the sun, but now exists without it. The burning embers at his feat and behind his mask still betray his origins, but he's a creature of shadow now.
As we're wrapping up the year, I have to let you know that you fans are the reason I'm able to make regular updates. The success of Angelarium to date has guaranteed that it will continue full speed into 2016.
With the Samshiel representing the halfway point in the Watchers series, I'm planning on switching gears to start off the new year. Starting next year will see the creation of some Archangels.
